Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Iowa. He has Professional Engineer licenses in the states of Iowa and Illinois and was certified as a Facilities Engineer and Contracting Officer by the U.S. Department of Defense. With over 25 years of experience in engineering, construction, and project management, Scott has developed a unique blend of technical and management skills to lead SBZ Development in enriching the lives of Africans while helping to grow Africa’s economy.
As a civilian working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Scott managed construction projects that included levees, wetlands, navigation locks and dams, a hydroelectric dam, bridges, new housing developments, exterior and interior building renovations, building demolition, drinking water storage and treatment, fuel stations, and landfill rehabilitation. As a geotechnical engineering consultant and lead estimator for a construction company, Scott has extensive experience in soils and earthwork, concrete and asphalt paving, building foundation systems, and underground utilities.
Scott was a senior project manager for a utility company that owned power generation facilities fueled by coal, natural gas, hydropower, and wind. Scott facilitated public informational meetings on proposed electric transmission line projects, coordinated with property owners on easements and purchase agreements, and worked with federal and state governments for project approvals.
Scott is a student at Harvard University working to earn a master’s degree in sustainability. He has always been passionate about helping people and taking care of the environment and is finding great fulfillment in his current studies. Agriculture and farming have always been a part of Scott’s life as his parents both grew up on farms and he has many family members that are currently farming or working in agriculture. Scott is also an active volunteer at his church and can frequently be seen running the sound system during service
